UPDATE: Jan 14, 2022

Our Elders, in cooperation with members of Immanuel's COVID Committee have updated practices for serving Holy Communion. These newest changes take some other pace toward normalcy by assuasive communicants to kneel at the rail again.

  • All elders, ushers and pastor are masked during the service of the Sacrament. Hands are also washed and sanitized.
  • BOTH bread and wine go along to exist served individually in portioned cups.
  • Instead of staff of life portions lined up on top of the railing equally before, masked elders will now paw the portion cups with bread to each person.
  • Instead of along the railing, individual cups of wine will be served from the communion tray for people to take and drink as the elder passes past. The Common Cup is still not offered.

UPDATE: November 15, 2021

Immanuel Lutheran Church building and Martin Luther School in Joplin have had much success with our COVID-19 protocols. UPDATE: Monday, October 4, 2021

Afterward conscientious consideration, we have decided NOT to host an indoor or outdoor Trunk-Or-Care for party at Immanuel Lutheran Church and Martin Luther Schoolhouse in 2021. September 2021 News and Updates

UPDATE: Mon, September 20, 2021

COVID-19's Delta Variant in our region seems to accept peaked, and a decline in local cases and hospitalizations may be beginning to follow that trend. Thanks, Lord, for your mercies! At the same time, local COVID deaths, especially among the unvaccinated population, have been recorded at levels unseen since late last winter. For this reason, Immanuel continues to recommend caution, including the wearing of masks and appropriate social distancing while attending our worship services.

A familiar item has quietly returned to our pews over the past couple of weeks— hymnals! Removed at the beginning of the COVID pandemic, the Lutheran Service Book hymnals accept been added back to the pew racks. UPDATE: Monday, August 23, 2021

Martin Luther School is back in session! Immanuel's Lutheran School serves lxxx+ students and their families, and has decided to begin the school year post-obit similar COVID-19 protocols as terminal year, with the hope of updating and relaxing the policy every bit COVID cases and hospitalizations in our customs begin to decline again. As COVID-19 and the newer Delta variant surges it's mode through Joplin and the Iv-states Region, Immanuel is dorsum to recommending masking and conscientious social distancing at our worship services and other on-campus activities — to protect those in our community and church building family with weakened amnesty and at higher risk of COVID complications.

June 2021 News and Updates

UPDATE: Friday, June 18, 2021

Immanuel's Holiday Bible Schoolhouse — scheduled for the evenings of June xx through June 24, 2021 — has been POSTPONED due to rising COVID-19 rates in our community. The decision to postpone VBS was a difficult ane. Until a couple weeks ago, the Joplin area had been enjoying a steady reduction in COVID cases. Infirmary beds were empty, and many take been receiving their vaccinations.

Before this week nosotros were informed of two church families testing positive for the newest strains of COVID-nineteen. At least one of these households is fully-vaccinated. Later conversations with local health officials from our congregation and church leadership, nosotros accept decided that nosotros cannot put our staff, volunteers, children and families at adventure. UPDATE: Wed, March 10, 2021

COVID-19 AND WORSHIP CHANGES

Happy New year! By God's grace, Immanuel has made information technology through months of online-only worship services. With much careful planning, in May of 2020 we resumed in-person worship, and in August began to open our campus for a growing number of other activities as well. Our Martin Luther Schoolhouse also developed and implemented a plan that allows them to take in-person classes, continuing to provide an excellent instruction for our students and their families.

UPDATE: Monday, October 12, 2020

Food Boxes Delayed

Immanuel Lutheran Church building in Joplin has been participating in the distribution of "Farmers to Families Food Boxes" from the The states Department of Agriculture (USDA) all summer long. In past weeks, our weekly distributions accept grown to 200 boxes on Tuesday mornings, with cars lined up around our parking lots and down the street! (Run across local news story.)

Unfortunately, the supply of Nutrient Boxes has stalled in the last couple of weeks as a third circular of government funding, with new suppliers and trucking contracts have been slow to materialize. We take no control over this, and will have to look patiently for the matter to be resolved regionally, we are being told.

Along with the other churches, charities and not-profits in boondocks, Immanuel Lutheran in Joplin is hoping to see a new shipment go far in two weeks. It is our goal to distribute Farmers to Families Food Boxes again, get-go on Tuesday, October 27. UPDATE: Sunday, September xiii, 2020

Immanuel is carefully resuming some on-campus meetings, classes and activities. Participants are asked to wear a mask indoors and to continue following Immanuel'due south COVID-19 guidelines as listed lower on this folio.

Martin Luther School is back! A mission ministry building of Immanuel Lutheran Church to the Joplin customs, MLS re-opened today with their get-go day of school! Immanuel's COVID Commission has met over the last several weeks to monitor the progress of COVID-xix in our community, with the hopes of moving forward in our re-opening plan. Immanuel Lutheran Church'southward COVID Commission met earlier this evening, and discussed the success and challenges of being open up for worship over the past two weeks. Congregation members are returning slowly and cautiously. The committee discussed how to motion forward in our re-opening plan. Beloved members of Immanuel,

Having been separated from our church friends for nine weeks because of the Coronavirus pandemic, nosotros are finally making plans to reopen our sanctuary for Sunday public worship services.  The first Sunday open up will exist May 24.  We will be worshiping in 2 services at our normal times of viii:00 and 10:30.

We will be observing some special guidelines for a while until further restrictions are lifted.  Because we are required to maintain "social distancing," every other pew in the sanctuary has been taped off for non-utilize.  In addition, mostly only five to six people will be seated in each pew so that families and individuals can maintain a six pes buffer distance.  In lodge to facilitate this, elders/ushers volition seat people from front to dorsum equally they make it.  So, delight understand that yous may non be sitting in your favorite pew.

UPDATE: Tuesday, May 5, 2020 — As of Monday, May iii, the City of Joplin and Land of Missouri are charily easing restrictions and allowing local businesses and churches to open up at 25% capacity with proper social distancing and other safeguards in place.

Immanuel's campus is not open up still, but our congregation president has formed a "COVID Committee" to make up one's mind the best grade of action to reopen our church for public worship. UPDATE: Tuesday, April 14, 2020 — The campus at Martin Luther School (and all Joplin expanse schools) will be airtight for the residue of the school twelvemonth. I spent a good bargain of time this past Friday talking with health care professionals, Pastor Mech, Chief Elder Jeff Schilling and other church building leadership here at Immanuel nearly the bear on the coronavirus pandemic is having, or will have, on our community.

It is with a sad eye that I am here to inform the congregation that we will continue our suspension of public worship services through the month of Apr as our customs continues to fight the coronavirus boxing.  Although our state and local leaders have not even so forced a shelter-at-home policy, it is likely shortly to happen.  Yet, the social distancing and "no more 10 people in a group" gathering guidelines that remain in effect forbid our worshiping together at this time.  Our Martin Luther School will as well be airtight through April 24, as are all area schools.
